About
I'm a generalist game designer striving to take part in the creation of games that inspire others, spreading the same inspiration they sparked in so many of us.
The journey so far
Grew up playing and being mesmerized by videogames. Life took different turns and instead of following my dreams of becoming a game designer, I joined medicine school in 2015. In 2018, I came to realize that such career path wasn't for me.
I tried to drop out, but for personal reasons, I wasn't allowed to. Life then felt stuck and dull. That's when I started creating videogames as a self-taught developer and, despite of being tired due the workload of being a medicine student by day and game developer by night, I finally felt like I was moving forward.
That lifestyle went on for the next three years: from 2018 to 2021, I worked as a solo developer and acquired skills in different fields such as art, programming, game & level design, sound, animation, video editing, game engines, community management, feedback gathering and documentation.
One year after graduating in medicine, I stumbled upon a rare opportunity: Vancouver Film School (VFS) was looking for scholarship candidates for their game design course. I sent my projects their way and was awarded with two scholarships at the institution, acclaimed as the #1 game design school in Canada.
Since then, I left my medicine career behind and graduated in Game Design at VFS in 2023. Today, I've been through 4 full production cycles, learned industry standards from highly experienced developers and am utterly excited to work on games alongside passionate colleagues and friends for many years to come!
Why is all that important?
The road that led me here provides an insight on my qualities as a game designer: passionate, versatile, quick to learn & to adapt.
The previous experience in multiple game development areas as a solo developer granted me decent project pipeline insights and refined my capability to identify project blockers early, as well as which actions should be taken to avoid them before they become a bigger issue. It also taught me the importance of taking a step back in an attempt to see the bigger picture to see if things will work while being tied together in a coherent way.
Working in projects with others made me realize how powerful teamwork is, improved my communication & organization skills, deepened my perspective on project pipelines & tasking and taught me how massively having colleagues contributing with their own ideas and passions can improve a project from bottom up.
The past career as a physician boosted soft skills that are useful for a designer, such as clear communication, ability to keep calm and focused under high pressure & intense workloads and showed me that sometimes the root of a problem is not always where it seems to be. Working on something I did not like for seven years contributed to the immense grattitude I have for being able to work on something I'm so passionate about, constantly pushing me to give my best for every project I work on.
